Research

Emily’s graduate research has focused on understanding the cardiovascular adjustments which accompany whole-body, passive heat stress and exploring how these responses may differ based on sex, age, or between healthy and patient populations. Her dissertation research aims to explore the systemic hemodynamic and baroreflex support of blood pressure during recovery from whole-body, passive heat stress in young and older adults. In completing this research she hopes to better understand how cardiovascular adjustments which accompany a single session of heat stress contribute to the beneficial cardiovascular adaptations which accompany chronic heat therapy (ie. regular hot tub or sauna use).
